SSW Update - Effective Product Owners Use the 'Business Value' Field |
|
|
[the cutting edge ]
G'day Developers!
Watch this SSW TV special video on "Estimating Business Value to order your backlog" and see
a real-life, brand new Scrum team learn how to use the "Business Value" field.
One thing that is practically universal in our industry is that we let Product Owners get
away with far too much.
Product Owners are typically extremely busy people and I believe that most dysfunction that
happens in Scrum teams comes down to the Product Owner.
Letting a Product Owner skip estimating the 'Business Value' does *not* make developers work
better together.
So how do we estimate Business Value?

SharePoint 2013: So what is Client Side Rendering?
|
FREE Webinar
Wednesday, May 29th, 2013
11.00am - 12.00pm AEDT
Cost: Free
Presenters: Nick Hadlee and Adam Cogan.
|
It’s hardly possible to talk about SharePoint development anymore without a good dose of client
side technologies getting tossed into the mix.
Server side isn’t the only object model to consider; since SharePoint 2010 we have had a rich
JavaScript object model (JSOM) to work with.
Now SharePoint 2013 has brought even more JavaScript to the party via a technique called Client
Side Rendering.
Nick Hadlee will introduce the Client Side
Rendering (CSR) capabilities of SharePoint 2013 and show how they are changing the way that
customisations need to be planned and
opening up more possibilities for building rich solutions that make use of SharePoint’s UI.
SSW's very own Chief Architect Adam Cogan will be joining
Nick in this discussion, so don't miss out!

Enterprise MVC Apps - 4 Part Course
NEW AND IMPROVED 4 DAY COURSE FORMAT!
The Model View Controller design pattern has been a proven and effective way of structuring
applications for more than 30 years. In 2007, Microsoft introduced ASP.NET MVC to the world and
since then, the framework has evolved into a mature and powerful way of writing dynamic web sites
and powerful web applications.
ASP.NET MVC provides a great way of structuring your application, ensuring a clean separation of
concerns, easy testability, and ultimate control over markup. It is quickly becoming the go-to
framework for writing .Net web applications.
Enterprise MVC Apps Day I: MVC Foundations - From the Gound Up
This course will introduce you to the latest version of ASP .NET MVC; version 4. By the end of the
course, attendees will know:
How MVC Works - We'll take a peek under the covers of ASP .NET MVC 4 to discover how it
works.
User Interface Considerations - We'll look at how to get a clean, useable and responsive user
interface with minimal stress.
Targeting Mobile Devices - Once you know how, building MVC sites that look great on mobile
devices is easy.

"Tips and Tricks to Good Contracts and How to Deal With Contract Disputes" - Cameron
Shaw
At the beginning of a contract everything often goes swimmingly. The client loves you and you get
paid on time, every time. Then, after a few issues or delays, the contract can go a little bit off
the rails.
There's issues to do with deliverables, the client is a bit late in paying bills, and there's
arguments about bugs. You try and negotiate your way through, but after a while the relationship
begins to break down and you find yourself owed a lot of money, with claims from the customer that
you are delivering a half-built app.
Where to from here?
Finish the app and hope that you get paid in the end? March off to court? Or just let the whole thing
slide and leave with a bitter tase in your mouth?
Come hear this and more at May's Sydney .NET User Group. And don't be scare to bring your hairiest
questions for Cameron. This might be the best free advice you'll ever get from a solicitor!
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Cameron Shaw is a solicitor with a range of experience in software projects. He loves talking all
things law and the tips and tricks when it comes to contracts and contract disputes.
He understands software and has experience in advising clients in what steps you can take to best
